This is basically a Chinese GI Joe film.The movie is filled with globe trotting action and really cool gadgets.Jackie Chan is more or less General Hawk. In the action the whole way through, but not the one tasked with the most outrageous fight bits.There's outtakes in the end credits, as per usual, (which features a song sung by Jackie Chan), and one of the outtakes has Jackie Chan in the drink as his jetski capsizes.What we learned from Bela Lugosi in Bride of the Monster and Boris Karloff in The Terror, is don't get the old guys wet. The water is cold and they never recover.This is a Chinese movie, so after getting through the censors, all the sharp edges have been sanded off, so there's not a lot in this movie to offend anyone.The version I watched on Prime Video was mostly in Chinese w/ English subtitles, though the bad guys often spoke English.The movie is a little cheesy in spots, here and there, but I had a great time watching it.

This is a China propaganda film, pure and simple. The even have an obvious line about Captain China being better than Captain America. The heroes all speak Mandarin (with subtitles) and the bad guys all speak English. Propaganda aside, the story is very weak and fairly convoluted. The hallmark of Jackie Chan movies - amazing stunts and amazingly choreographed fight scenes - get extremely watered down in this film with way too much CGI, special FX and a very strange use of speeding film up to make the car scenes seem interesting. On top of everything, the humor that that usually runs through a Jackie Chan movie was definitely missing. The few times they tried to be funny it fell flat. Viewers never really care about any of the characters and the strange "romance" they try to place in the story seems forced and awkward.I have seen a lot of Jackie Chans movies - some good, some bad - but this is the first time I can honestly say, Jackie Chan should have to refund my money.

I love this movie for what it is. Chinese with subtitles but also English mixed in. It’s well done for the genre. Everything is way overdone and totally epic in a kind of good bad way. Lathered in cheese. It’s fun and entertaining. Totally ‘state media’. Some of the small parts you’ll catch. It’s kind of an interesting introspective on how the US is held in the eyes of the Chinese. Small nuances but obvious. For straight up kick your butt intense over the top action this movie is worth a watch imop. For sure this is a ‘foreign film’ but there is plenty of English throughout. And there’s so much action the subtitle sections giving plot narrative aren’t strenuous.

My copy was a DVD which included dubbed English and English subtitles or Mandarin with English subtitles. I chose the dubbed English, which wasn't great (most dubbing isn't) but it was functional. Jackie of course did his own voice overs. Some of the acting/dialogue in the more "peaceful" scenes left a lot to be desired. The movie's strong points are its action sequences.All in all, it was pretty much what I expected. Acting wasn't great, locations were actually pretty interesting, and fights and stunts weren't bad. Obviously not a well fleshed out plot, but then that isn't a norm for most martial arts/action movies anyway. The fight scenes were well done overall and they kept them to reasonable lengths compared to some movies. Some movies the scenes last so long that they get monotonous and boring. Jackie participates as the leader, but the scenes don't specifically center themselves around him, and the movie shares the action with his fellow actors with them frequently being the focal points of the scenes. Overall, it was enjoyable.

This is a very exciting action film. Chan participates in the action. Most of the action is handled by his team. They have a woman who is very tough and several men who engage in many fights. I especially enjoyed the battle on the water. I enjoyed the love stories. There were several love stories that made the film even better. There are several villains who do a good job menacing others. The locations are beautiful and the direction is great. I wanted to see Chan do more of the action but he is getting older so many of the young stars handle the over the top action. There are hand to hand battles, gun fights, car chases, a battle on the water with jet skis and a floating car, man eating lions, beautiful women, explosions and a little humor thrown in. Recommended for action fans and all Jackie Chan fans.

So sad. Lots of opportunity to make a movie and no true content. a few Hollywood mimics and no character development. viewer can't feel with the characters. no bonding between characters. I get the reason(s) for the movie from Chan's part. Camera work lacking also. I watched 3/4 of it until i gave up hope for a redeeming moment.2 starts just because Jackie was in it. Movies like the "Foreigner" is what i hoped for in this movie.

Vanguard is a 2020 live-action action adventure Chinese film. The story is pretty basic: an international security firm has to protect one of its clients from terrorists and action ensues. What makes this film special is its execution. It was perfectly cast, scripted, acted, filmed, and edited. It was chuck full of fun and entertainment. It was serious but fun. This movie couldn't have had a better cast. Everyone was perfect for his roles, and the cast as a whole had great chemistry together. The movie had tons of action, and it varied so it never became stale or repetitive. This film takes place around the world from London to Dubai and several places in between, and each location couldn't have been shot better.This film was so much fun! While most of it seemed pretty grounded and realistic, it had some signature Jackie Chan parts that were just fun and silly and you know would never happen, but you don't care because it's just so cool to watch. I highly recommend this film give it 5 out of 5 Boxes of Popcorn.

Es tut mir als jahrelanger Fan im Herzen weh, einen Film mit Jackie zu bemängeln, aber dieser Film verdient nicht, dass er mitmacht. Letztlich ist es auch kein "Jackie-Chan-Film", sondern ein Film MIT Jackie.Ich habe mich 108min geärgert über so einen plumpen Film: Die Dialoge sind schlecht, die schauspielerische Leistung der meisten Aktuere ist B-Movie-Niveau und nicht glauwürdig. Und die Computereffekte scheinen aus den Anfängen der CG-Effekte zu stammen, sie sind wirklich unglaublich schlecht... zB gibt es einige Autoverfolgungen, wovon so gut wie keine echte Stunts sind, sondern Computeranimationen. Gerade bei der gestochen scharfen blueray sieht man gestochen scharf die miese Qualität. Ein driftendes Auto ist eigentlich kein Problem mehr... Hey Leute, es gibt Computerspiele, die unglaublich realistische Autophysik darstellen können. Wenn ihr schon keine Stunts machen wollt, dann holt euch Leute, die sich auskennen!!!... Jackie ist über alle Mängel erhaben. Er spielt so professionell, wie wir es von ihm gewohnt sind. Aber alles andere ist wirklich schwach. Das einzige, was ich noch hervorheben kann, sind die Drehlocations, da gibts ein paar tolle Bilder...Ganz ehrlich: Tut es euch nicht an. Ich dachte, als Jackie-Fan muss es in meine Sammlung... Nein, muss es wirklich nicht. Wartet bis der Film in prime oder im TV kommt und entscheidet dann, ob er in eure Sammlung soll. JACKIE HAT BESSERES VERDIENT!!!

I love Jackie Chan, I love Chinese movies, especially the 80's and 90's movies, but this movie is a HUGE let down. Where do I start??? The blatant CGI animals? The TERRIBLE green screen? The lack of physics? The boat chase is hilarious as is the over the top car chase which literally had me in stitches it was so dumb. Honestly PLEASE, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! If I could I'd have given it ZERO stars.

Good film enjoyed watching this couple odd none like think bit quirky n cheesy, but very enjoyable only bad thing would say is that mostly in Chinese sum English bout 75 Chinese 25 percent English no dub ude think a 2020 movie would have dub Option

Good film. Enjoyed fight scenes and car chases. Especially the kickass miya muqi shes awsome. Jackie chan didnt do many fight scenes but thats to be expected. It was enjoyable but not on the same par as his earlier films.

I am a huge JC fan and have all of his movies. Sadly this film is not very good, he doesn’t feature too much and the CGI is just awful. Seems that new movies are just using the JC name to help sell and otherwise bad movie.
