UPDATE: I recently traveled for work using this backpack and wanted to provide my real world experience. As stated below, I travel with a work laptop, an iPad, and "IT geek accessories" - a boat load of cables, chargers, a travel router, Fire TV stick for the hotel, bluetooth speaker, and a travel umbrella.With the backpack loaded and in non-expanded mode, it ended up measuring roughly around 8.75-9" deep (or tall when laying on its back). It was NOT over-stuffed by any means. I mention this because I experienced a bit of trouble fitting it under my aisle airplane seat on my United Airline flight that was on a 777 aircraft. No issues getting in the overhead bin, but I am the type of person that prefers to have the bag at my feet and use the under seat storage. Every airline and aircraft is different, but on this aircraft which on United claims to have an 8" vertical height space under the seat, it would not fit when loaded... without the flight attendants complaining that it was sticking out too much.I still stand by my overall positive review though as this may not be a show stopper for most people. If you look at the (expensive) Nomatic backpack, this is almost a carbon copy of that backpack at an exceptional price. Quality and style is great and I still LOVE the fact that it opens up completely to easily load it. You can also easily access stuff through partially unzipping the top angled pocket. Will definitely continue using this on some trips.HOWEVER, If you are looking for a backpack that, without a doubt, will fit under an airplane seat (8" height seems to be a standard), I recommend my original second choice which was the MARK RYDEN Slim Backpack 3-in-1. That backpack is 1.2" slimmer than the Bange. I did purchase that as well and can confirm that with my same items loaded, it maxes out at just under 8" tall when laying on its back. It also has the majority of the features that I like about the Bange. My suggestion when looking at sizes for your situation is to add ~2" to the maximum depth listed for any backpack you look at to account for its dimensions when fully loaded. Again, the Bange stated its size is 7.1" deep when compressed but ended up a tad under 9" when loaded. The Mark Ryden is 5.9" per the specs and ended up just under 8" loaded.--------------I wanted to share my experience so far with this backpack. First a little background for context:I am an IT guy and typically travel for work a handful of times each year. I was not looking for a luggage replacement, but for a backpack to carry my laptop, tablet, myriad of cables, Bluetooth speaker, travel pillow, travel router, notepad and numerous odds and ends. In researching backpacks, I found that I have developed a rather extensive list of "wants" from my previous travel experience. I really wanted a backpack that had:- some shape to it and was not floppy or saggy like a school backpack- accessibility from the top, but unzips fully to load it like a suitcase if desired- water bottle/umbrella holders on the side- the ability extend/collapse so I wasn't carrying around a huge empty backpack when I go to the office with just my laptop, charger and accessories.- hideaway shoulder straps to allow it to fit more easily under the airplane seat- a sternum (chest) strap for additional support when full- good padding on the straps and back- handles on the side(s) in case it was easier to grab/carry it that way in certain situations- a luggage handle strap. Ideally one that went vertically vs horizontally so when it sits on top of a suitcase, it didn't make things too tall to where it may tip over or awkward to roll around.- a price point under $100I probably looked at 30 backpacks after being served an ad for the Nomatic expandable backpack which had all these features, but came at a $270 price point. Even when the Nomadic was on sale for Prime day, it only came down to $220. I still had a hard time pulling the trigger on a backpack that cost that much. The Bange Weekender caught my eye as it did possess all of the features I listed above at a price point that was more digestible.Upon receiving the backpack, I took everything out of my bulky Krosser 17.3" laptop backpack (nice but huge and saggy) and put it into the Bange. Everything fit perfectly and even when fully loaded, it held its shape, and was not bulging, etc.My only complaint so far is that I would have liked handles that felt more substantial. If you were to pull hard on the handles when this backpack is fully loaded, I feel like there is a chance the stitching could give way and cause them to rip. I am comparing it to the Krosser 17.3 laptop backpack I used previously that had a substantial and padded handle vs a strap like the Bange. Time will tell on that.I do highly recommend this backpack and it checked off my extensive list of feature requests at a price that is much less than the "premium" competition. Plus, I think it looks really good with clean lines and a compact design. Also, watch the review video as there were some good tips on how to use certain pockets when traveling. For example, I liked the suggestion of using the mesh pocket in what would be the expandable area for storing a sweatshirt or jacket if you use the backpack collapsed like I do. Great idea!

Love the bag

I bought this specifically to use as a personal item for flying based on the dimensions. I was a little concerned once it was packed up but it held its shape and stayed within the airline specifications. It fit my laptop, charging cable, 2 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, 4 pairs of underwear, 4 pairs of socks, a large bag of snacks, a bag of medicines, ear buds, usb cables, 2 small usb battery packs, a full size notebook, pencil, inflatable travel pillow, toothbrush, water bottle, tissues, and probably a few other items that I can’t remember. It fit nicely under the seat which is where they want you to stow your personal item. I believe I would have been able to pack more clothes without needing to expand the bag but it would have been pushing it. With the bag expanded I don’t think it would meet the personal item requirements. The material and quality of the backpack is great but the zippers seem cheap and I was afraid they wouldn’t take much stress. That said, they seem to be holding up fine. The top handle is not great but it does it’s job, it’s just a little narrow. There are handles on either side which are a rigid plastic straps. Those handles are great. If you tuck the backpack straps into the hidden pocket in the back you could use the side handle and carry it like a suitcase. Overall, it fit my needs perfectly and I like it a lot. It’s comfortable when using as a backpack and I expect to use it for many years to come.

I've had this bag for a couple of weeks. I use it for weekends at the girlfriends place and eventually for all travel. This is a very good take on the Nomadic Travel pack.Pros: It feels very well built, materials feel like a good quality and weather/waterproof. It has the laptop sleeve on the side of the pack that touches your back which i like. Ample room: I pack for typically 3 days ( I had 3 t-shirts, pants, a thick sweatshirt, 3 pairs of socks & underwear, and a beanie and bucket hat. Also keep in mind I am a size XL so my clothes tend to be a little bulkier than smaller sizes.Cons: The Zipper pocket on the very back where On the nomadic you would have more compartments to organize with, this has just one big giant pocket, literally no organization, which kinda sucks. I am actually going to buy an organization sleeve insert. Another con is that the handles are definitely not the same quality as the Nomadic. When the bag is loaded you will not want to pick up with the top front loop handle (the one you would typically grab on a backpack), the good thing is there is also a larger handle on top in the middle of the pack, so I will have to train myself to use that instead of what feels more intuitive. The only other thing (and it is not a deal killer) is the chest strap support feels like its a bit high up, would prefer more in the middle of my chest than so high up. I know not everyone uses that, but I usually do when I travel.Overall this is a great bag for the money, definitely better than anything I've seen in this price rang and category. And considering its over $200 less than the Nomadic it's a great choice if you're not trying to drop that much on a backpack. An easy 4 star, but not a 5
