The Big Bang Theory: Season 6 [DVD] [2007] [2013]

Big Bang year six
A box set containing all twenty four episodes of Sit-com the Big Bang Theory. With all twenty four eighteen to twenty minute long episodes spread over three discs. The amount of back story and character development the show has built up by now doesn't make this an entirely ideal jumping on point. But if you're reading this then you've doubtless followed the show all the way so far, so that won't be a problem. This year sees Howard and Bernadette getting used to married life, which starts with the former in Space. Leonard and Penny's resurgent relationship face a few potential bumps along the way. Amy and Sheldon continue their somewhat unique dynamic. With the former never giving up on the chance of it getting more intimate.Meanwhile Raj is just looking for love. And possibly finding it.This season does a stronger job than the last two of getting all the increased cast involved. Amy is only missing from two episodes and Bernadette from one. Although said larger cast size does mean many episodes can involve splitting them up into separate storylines, and only every so often will you get one with all the main characters together and just one main plot. Those who still hold out for the pre Amy and Bernadette days will probably like episode eight, in which neither feature. But all in all, it's a very solid season and a slight step up from the fifth one as they get more used to the newer dynamics. As the characters get older they are now more focused on relationships than their hobbies of old - although the latter do still get a look in - so many storylines can be focused around such things. But they all work well.Attempts to make Stuart more of a regular don't quite work out as he does initially get more to do. But then rather gets forgotten about in favour of Raj's dog.If you want a sitcom where the characters don't change and keep on doing the same old thing, then you're not going to be so keen on this season. But if you want one where they do grow and learn, then this is for you. Speaking of character development and changing the status quo, there's a very good bit of that right at the end of the season finale...The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French.Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Norwegian, Swedish. It contains the usual flyer with address of website and code you can use to download a digital copy of it onto a digital device.Disc one has two featurettes, both running for just under ten minutes. The final comedy frontier and Houston we have a sitcom. The former is an entertaining watch about the two astronaut guest stars of the year. The latter is also space themed with the cast making a long distance call. This featurette is awe inspiring and has to be watched.Disc two has a Q&A session with the cast at a convention. This runs for twenty seven minutes and the length allows for some good questioning and interviewing which is very entertaining viewing.Disc three contains four interviews with the actors all about the character relationships over the course of the season. These run from six to nine minutes and can be watched individually or all in a row. All are entertaining. There's also a nine minute long gag reel. Which is mostly people forgetting their lines, but is still fun. And there are a couple of genuine laugh out loud moments in there. In particular the final outtake of the reel.

A true testament to TV comedy in 2013.
First of all I'm going to talk about the actual bluray transfer of the show, the first 1 or 2 seasons weren't brilliant transfers and it wasn't hard to notice them getting better as the series progressed and technology advanced, but this season is leaps and bounds ahead of the last five in terms of picture and sound quality. I usually use the eyes (like camera operators in the film and television industry) to see how clear the picture quality is on a bluray and usually you get a little bit of grain around the eyes and in the background, but the transfer is top of the range, there is literally not a grain in sight (watched on a 52" flat-screen).Now I've seen people complain about the quality of the series and a lot of people saying the genius of the show is in the writing and Jim Parsons of course, while that still holds true to the day, characters like Rajesh and Bernadette really get fleshed out and improve dramatically this season, Amy Farrah Fowler is a gem of a character who is literally made by the brilliant Mayim Bialik, if Mayim wasn't portraying that character I have no earthly idea how she could succeed. The bottom line is this is one of the hottest shows on television right now (up there with The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad) and this season shows us exactly why, episodes like "The Spoiler Alert Segmentation", "The 43 Peculiarity" and "The Parking Spot Escalation" are true examples of what makes a sitcom great. This is definitely the finest sitcom to come around since the greats of Friends and Seinfeld.

Keeps going from strength to strength
I love having The Big Bang Theory DVDs as this means I can watch it when I want and watch whatever episode(s) at any time. Perfect if you just need a quick laugh as the episodes are about 20 minutes long but pack a lot of things into one episode.Things that are specific to Series 6 include Howard's adventures in space, Leonard and Penny's relationship goes through the usual ups-and-downs whilst even Sheldon and Amy's relationship progresses (which is nice and weird at the same time), Sheldon gets a new (female) assistant Alex and Raj meets a girl who has social anxiety issues. I like the fact that whilst the characters have clearly evolved during the six series, they do still stay somewhat true to what they started as - Sheldon especially still has the ability to make me laugh over some of his mannerisms. But there's plenty of laughs in each episode (24 in total). As per the other series, this has three discs in one box and there's some decent extras for those who watch the extras. All in all, a good buy for anyone who loves this show, especially if you already have the other five series.

BBT - Funny as always
What can I say. I have all 6 seasons on DVD and plan to buy S7 when it comes out. They are all funny but I fear the people behind the show are rapidly running out of materials. Just how long can you focus on Sheldons' OCD, Leonard's insecurity about his relationship with Penny, Raj's with the ladies, etc.I think it would be wise for the directors and creators of the show to tie things up and end it in S7 - Leonard and Penny got married, Sheldon finally had 'physical' contact with Amy and realised how much fun sex is, that kind of thing. All good things come to en end. Unless they do something dramatic and fun, soon the show will go downhill. It is always better to end when it is still popular.

Excellent
